What should we pay attention to when moving an overhead crane?
Aug. 5th, 2015
On August 3, a terrible double-crane collapse took place in the Netherlands , and several dwellings and shops in the Netherlands were damaged.
Overhead cranes and gantry cranes are required in many construction applications. Equipment failure and improper use of cranes can cause accidents, property damage and personal injury and death each year. The implementation of crane safety that identifies hazards and follows simple inspection and safety guidelines can reduce the likelihood of these unfortunate events.
Before moving the overhead crane, we should do:
1. Remove all loose material, parts, blockages and packaging from the load before lifting.
2. Before lifting the load, release any slack from the slings and hoisting ropes.
3. Make sure the lift is on the saddle of the hook.
4. Verify that the load will not exceed the maximum load capacity.
How should you move loads safely?
1. Move crane controls smoothly. Avoid load sudden, impatient movement.
2. Make sure everyone is away from the load before hoisting. Sound a bell, siren or other warning device and start to hoist slowly.
3. Ensure nothing links or catches on the load while raising it or traveling.
4. Ensure that nothing obstructs the movement of a load.
5. Keep the load under control when lowering a load.
6. Stay in a crane cab during power failure. Place controls in "off" position, attract attention and wait for help.
We can easily prevent overhead cranes collapse by paying attention to potential hazards, carrying out routine checks and using with common sense.
